1. ReduceKeep your electronics in good working order and keep them as long as possible.
· While the typical lifespan of a computer is 2-3 years, upgrading your system can add an additional 1-2 years onto your system
· Purchasing quality products typically means a longer lifespan.
· Consider leasing computer equipment. Items can be traded in at the end of a lease.
2. ReuseMany electronics and computer components can be refurbished and reused. Your trash may be another person’s treasure!
3. RecycleElectronic equipment can be recycled for recovery of metals, plastics, glass, and other materials.
· There are more companies offering services related to the recycling of electronics. You can ship your items directly to a recycler.
· Before you purchase a large electronic component, check with the manufacturer to see if they have a trade-in or buy-back program.
· Participate in electronics recycling initiatives in your community.
